Robotics and the Rise of Intelligent Machines

Introduction: What Comes to Mind When You Hear “Robot”?

When people hear the name of robot their minds clicks towards imagination of synthetic human which may be a gynoid or android, self-working machines such as cars or industrial instruments. Today this is more than literature. It includes a variety of fields like automation, technicalities and Artificial intelligence to fulfill the demands of human tasks. And in future they can also replace the need of human. Their impact on human lifestyle is well worthy or commendable because it changes the mode we alive, working techniques and also combines new technologies to enhance efficiency and reliability even the surgeries also performed by machines now a days. In this article I cover the future prospect of these technologies.

What Is Robotics?

Robotics is the combination of other fields like software engineering, medical sciences and information technology that interact with planning, organizing, constructing, programming, coordinating, and operating tools of self-working machines that complete their tasks or responsibilities by mimicking humanoid behavior without error. Resemblance with humans are not essential, but humanoids are designed for specific tasks like service providers in medical setups, or artificial arms in industries or factories to minimize human workload effectively

Robot Types in Current Use

Specific type robots is required for specific purpose and it varies field to field. Some of their types are mentioned below:

1. Robots for healthcare

For operation’s, surgical procedures, medical laboratory testing, rehabilitation and cleaning in hospital settings or healthcare department. It brings automation in variety of human tasks like medicine delivery, decontamination of operation theaters and also provide patient assistance in  physiotherapy.

2.Personal and Domestic Use

They also use at domestic level to perform those tasks which are  time consuming like home automation setups, vaccum cleaners and also lawn mowers for smart working

3. Robots for Industry and Manufacturing

As in developed countries, their factories uses robots for material making, welding, product assembling and packaging to reduce labor cost. Benefits includes increased productivity, improved quality, better worker safety from harmful chemicals and minimum error.

4. Robots for Logistics and Warehouses

Robotics also used in digital business for product or goods packaging, inventory management and AI powered delivery. Flying robots like autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) for automated transport of materials.

5. Robots for Space Exploration

Robots like james webb space telescope helps the scientist to observe galaxies and stars from their emerging points and also observe infrared radiations or heat in the clouds.  Also explores planets or orbiting bodies and gather information in harsh conditions or locations.

6. Robots for Defense and Military Use

They are used in military like improvised explosive devices to fulfill those tasks that are difficult. It is important to save lives in hazardous tasks, improve efficiency. SAFFiR robot are used to combat enemies in dangerous areas. On military ships, some robots even carry equipment or assist in putting out fires.

7. Robots for Entertainment and Hospitality

These include cooperative robots  like receptionist robot that offer guests novelty, dances for their viewers in theme parks or in Artificial intelligence games.

8. Autonomous Vehicles and Travel

Recent innovation in robotics and artificial intelligence in mobility, such as driverless cars  that are controlled their stop and turning poin through AI . Delivery drones, provide safer and more operative modes of transportation

Benefits of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence

Several benefits of both of these technologies in different fields or industries science and technologies  are given below.

1.     Enhanced Security

Human risks or threats as in burn area or firefighting, occupational hazards and in critical operations are minimized by their replacement with robotics and artificial intelligence .

2. Increased Efficiency

Replace the human in efficiency because they work without any break or 24/7 and provide reliable results without errors, humans are bored from repetitive tasks and increased workload compromise consistency

3. Increased Accuracy and Quality

By using artificial intelligence and robots, human error are reduced because of decrease manual working or tedious assignments and provide accurate, precise and reliable results or improved the quality of product or goods.

4. Long-Term Financial Savings

They reduces the labor cost by performing those tasks which are performed by employees and with time they improve bank balance, continuous improvement in working but these benefits require huge startup investement.

Drawbacks and Difficulties:

Some of disadvantages of artificial intelligence and robotics are listed below;

1. High Initial Outlay of Funds

Both of these technologies require massive or bulk of initial investment that are out of the budget of small industries, factories, and organization to purchase these technologies to enhance their efficiency, efficacy or to improve their product sales.

2. The possibility of losing one’s job

People belongs to fields other than information technology or software engineering lose their high paid jobs due to their replacement with robots and artificial intelligence. Because they only produce the jobs only for programming, machine learning and computer science to run their automated system.

3. The Skills Gap

By the use of these, require those employees who have skills in automation, in running digital setups or systems, in robot operative mechanisms and artificial intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence Function in Robotics.

The working principles of robots are driven by Artificial intelligence. The ability of robot to learn from provided data, their decision making power in their working space are due to AI.

Computer Vision

Motion Planning and Navigation

Fine Motor Control and Grasping

Language Processing (NLP)

 Real-Time Decision Making

The Future of Robotics: Trends and Outlook

At that time, these technologies emerging rapidly  replace 25 to 30% existing jobs in variety of fields. It doesn’t mean they increase unemployment but it is a transformation to modern or digital world

 1. Human-Robot Collaboration (Co-Bots)

In future they provide assistance to the workers in many tasks to increase yield and reduce strain by sharing tasks.

2. Integration with IoT and Smart Systems

Now a days, it is a part of our ecosystem for interaction with other operational system or devices to increase the effectiveness of ultimate results.

3. Education and Upskilling

Demands of AI and automation experts are also increased due to their benefits in all fields. Now a days , colleges or universities also offer programs or online learning platforms to provide digital skills in the next generation.

4. Ethical Considerations

The use of robotics and artificial intelligence the ethical concerns develop because of data integrity  or privacy and human dignity. Creating fair, ethical AI systems will be critical.

Conclusion: Embracing the Robotic Era

Robotics is not only limited to our literature but its time to consider that they are the active part of our world, improves our work speed, our product quality, advances in  medical procedures and quality working. As AI continues to evolve, the line between human capability and robotic support will continue to blur.

As these technologies are growing, also develop fear which are reduced through continuous education, awareness programs. Currently they don’t replace us totally but they assist us for easy, reliable working and provide new prospects.
